The Cherry Orchard
By: Anton Chekov
The play, first performed in 1904, explores the situation of Madame Lubov Ranevsky, her family, and the other people in her life as her ancestral estate in rural Russia is put up for auction in order to pay the family's debts. In class, we discussed this play as a concrete example to use while learning basic concepts and methods required for directing. Some of the exercises included putting together a pitch, a moodboard, play research, and breaking down a scene.
