As originally constructed, each pump is attached to 2" galvanized pipe which is lowered down through a 6" plastic pipe until it is below lake water level. At low water levels, the pumps (and the original intake holes) were no more than 4 or 5 feet below water level.
In May, 2010, a major project extended the intakes deeper into the lake. Two 50 ft sections of 6" HDPE pipe (DR 17.5) were added to each end of the old lines.
The pipe and fittings were ordered from Corix Water Products in Abbotsford (3175 Turner St - 604-850-0441). They supplied the pipe, welded flanges and end caps to the pipe, supplied the large metal flanges used to connect to our existing pipe. Parts were shipped via Van-Kam Trucking.
The installation in May 2010 extended the intakes to about 80-90 feet below the surface and required the services of a diver, a boat and several volunteers.
A custom metal cage secures the ends of the pipe and elevates these ends off the bottom by about 3 ft.
It is recommended that the intake end of the line be inspected by diver occasionally.
