WATERS Gets New Engine!

Post date: Apr 08, 2011 8:27:43 PM

Over the last five years, the WATERS application has operated on leased hardware at a cost of $50,000 per year.  In preparation for the expiration of the lease on March 31, 2011, the IT Services Bureau selected a new, proven, and cost-effective hardware platform (Linux operating system running on VMware virtualization software) for WATERS. The one-time costs associated with the new hardware platform amounted to $3,055, and the annual recurring costs will approximate $5,000 per year.  The project started in July 2010 and the system cutover occurred on April 1, 2011.  The project represents a huge team effort with all ITSB employees involved. In addition, I would like to recognize the individual contributions of Tarmo Sutt, Diana Hardy and Mercedes Ortega.  I would like to further thank the Water Rights Abstracting Bureau and other WATERS users across the state for working with us during the critical testing phase of the project.
