Travel Clinic

Travel Clinic

We are pleased to be able to offer a comprehensive foreign travel advisory service which includes the supply and administration of most of the vaccines, medications and health related products you will need for your travel plans. If you are travelling abroad please make an appointment with one of our nurses who will be able to access up to date advice and information on the vaccinations you require for the part of the world you are travelling to. Remember to book well in advance of your trip so that there is ample time to give you your full course of injections.

For patients requiring basic vaccinations and booster injections, an appointment can be made with any of our practice nurses. Some patients, especially back packers and those travelling to Far East countries, may be asked to attend our travel clinic which is held weekly. Our travel trained practice nurse runs this clinic

There will be a charge for the following vaccinations if required:

  • Rabies
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Cholera
  • Hepatitis B
  • Yellow Fever
  • Hepatitis A and B combined
  • Meningococcal Meningitis
  • Tick-borne Encephalitis
  • TB

IMPORTANT NOTE: THERE IS CURRENTLY A NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF HEPATITIS A AND HEPATITIS B VACCINATIONS - Please bear this in mind when booking travel - please speak to the Practice Nurse for advice.

There will also be a charge for private prescriptions for travel drugs including malaria tablets and some antibiotics. We will advise you if any of these are required and inform you of the current prices for each vaccine. Payment must be made in full at the time of your appointment. We accept cash or cheque which must be guaranteed by a cheque card..

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
