Included in this handsome limited-edition set are a satin finish uncirculated Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar and an original 3-cent Iwo Jima postage stamp, issued by the then United States Post Office Department in 1945. Both the obverse of the coin and the stamp carry a rendition of the flag raising image as seen through the lens of Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal atop Mount Suribachi on the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima, February 23, 1945. It is believed to be the most reproduced image in the history of photography. The coin's reverse features an engraving of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor, official emblem of the United States Marine Corps. Today's emblem has remained virtually unchanged since 1868, when United States Secretary of the Navy, Gideon Welles approved the design as recommended by Brigadier General Commandant Jacob Zeilin. No more than 50,000 of these sets will be sold. $75.00
