Large Cents

The United States Mint issued large cents beginning in 1793 through 1857. The early cents were Flowing Hair with chain reverse and then a wreath reverse, followed by the Liberty Cap, Draped Bust, Classic Head, Matron Head and Braided Hair type cents. In 1856 the Flying Eagle cent ushered in a new era of small cents. Today there is talk of eliminating the cent altogether.
