Modern Commemorative Sets

The issuance of a George Washington commemorative half dollar in 1982 ushered in the era of modern commemorative coinage. Silver dollars, half dollars and gold 5 and 10 dollar gold pieces were issued to not only commemorate events but raise money for worth while causes, organizations and memorials. In many instances these coins were issued in special packages and combined with stamps, medals and other historically significant items. Many of the 2 coin sets contain either a proof and uncirculated dollar or a dollar and a half dollar coin and others were issued with special medals.
