8 Clitheroe

Will add  crossing River Ribble @ Edisford Bridge. The wretches would have walked past here along Ribble on their journey from Barrowford to Lancaster

Going in to Clitheroe you see the castle on the hill, Dating back to Norman times, it was  the property of the de Lacy family (with a pub in Whalley named after them), but later merged with the Duchy of Lancaster (ie Queen)

Tercet 4' -  3 points. Where is it?

Dedicated to Isabel Robey, it says

"From poverty, no poetry

but weird spells, half-prayer, half-threat;
sharp pins in the little dolls of death. "

View of Pendle from Clitheroe Castle

Also tried with the Pendle Witches was the 'Padiham Witch' - Margaret Pearson. She was not executed, instead she was sentenced to be pilloried on four consecutive market days in Padiham, Clitheroe, Whalley and Lancaster, and then to serve one year in prison.
