How can I apply for Peace Corps Lesotho?
You can apply for the Peace Corps and ask to be placed in Lesotho; but, generally they place you where you are most needed; and, they expect flexibility on your part. Personally, I didn't know of the country; but, I said I liked mountains. Sometimes placements are not very aligned with the volunteer's initial education, skills, desires, etc.
How long does it take to get a reply after I apply to the Peace Corps?
In 1986, I think it took most of us 6 months.
Is it easy to get into the Peace Corps?
No, it is fairly competitive. In 1986, most applicants did not get accepted. If you want to get in, keep trying. Take your time with the application; and, maybe get somebody to review it.
Can you travel after you are assigned to Lesotho?
Yes, for example a lot of us traveled to Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, and South Africa for vacations during our Peace Corps service. On our way home, after the completion of the 2 years plus service, many of us traveled to additional countries; eg: Malawi, Zimbabwe, etc.
Can you see other volunteers if you are placed remotely in Lesotho?
Yes, volunteers could, for instance, take a bus on the weekend and visit other volunteers in a major city.
Can you extend your service in Lesotho or join Peace Corps again in another country?
Yes, some of us did.
I want to set up a similar website and/or communication system for my RPCV group. Can I get some help?
Yes, just use the Contact Us page on this website. We would like to help you.
Where are the "Group Pages" - I don't see them in the navigation?
If you are a member of our group (Google Group) and take the link to the "Group Pages" (you will be prompted to login if you haven't already).
Why is it - although I'm logged into my Google Account, when I go to the calendar page it implies I don't have permission?
The exact error message is similar to "Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them."
Yea, there is a bug there that the Google Sites team needs to address. You can sometimes overcome this if you click into one of the events (until it opens Google Calendar), then if you go back and refresh the calendar webpage the error goes away and you can see all the events from both the public and group-only calendars merged.
I'd like to add some pages or change the content of some pages on this website, how do I do it?
You must be a member of our Google Group. After that, you can read the Site Building FAQ custom for this website.
Is there a convenient place to login from this website?
Yes, there are several ways to do this: (1) you could click the link to our private group site - it will ask you to login; or, (2) on the very bottom of every page it says "Sign in" - you could click that; or (3) find a link to a group-only page on this website and click the link - you should be prompted for login.
Is my activity being tracked on this website?
Although Google is tracking your page history on this website (that's why there is that navigation in the left column for recent pages on this site you have been to), other users of this website (including administrators) have no data on your site visits or which pages you have visited. However, if you modify a page or leave a comment then that could be seen.
