PERFORMANCE AGILITY CO-OP OF KNOXVILLE
On 1/1/15, Diane of Diane's Canine School of Charm (DCSOC) discontinued its agility business. Diane agreed to let a group of individuals rent the field, buy the equipment, and keep offering agility services to the community as a separate operation from DCSOC.
This group developed a self-supporting infrastructure called PACK - The Performance Agility Co-op of Knoxville. With the creation of the PACK, we have been able to provide a quality service to the agility community, improve the equipment, provide field maintenance, and conduct organized classes and events.
CURRENT STATUS
After two years of operation, our patrons number close to 100. In 2016, we recorded almost 1500 field reservations for close to 2000 hours rental. Eleven different classes were offered multiple times over the course of each year. Two top-level seminars were organized and conducted.
Field improvements in 2016 included: the addition of a vehicle gate and field parking, new A-frame and dog walk, training plank and training teeter, and two waste stations.
OUR FUTURE
As the number of PACK field users has grown, we experienced a significant increase in demand for field reservations, especially during peak / prime-time hours. In order to meet this demand, several process improvements are in the works.
We are very excited to announce that additional lighting and fencing will soon be installed. This will greatly expand our field utilization as it will allow TWO users to train at the same time.
One ring will be restricted to classes, private lessons, and group sessions.
The second ring will always be available for individual users. PACK will set up equipment and/or courses each week so that users can train without having to spend a lot of time building a course.
Each ring will be reserved independently. Stay tuned for information on how this will work.
2017 equipment upgrades include: two new tunnels, all new tunnel bags, a new set of competition weave poles, new weave pole guides, and an A-Frame mover. We will also be putting new rubber on our old contact obstacles.
We hope you will consider being a part of our future by using the PACK facility as part of your agility training regimen. If you like how things are going, SPREAD THE WORD. Please contact Dan Faulkner if you have questions or suggestions.
