Pressley's Wood and Coal Yard (1947-1967)
Shortly after the flood of 1936 Mr and Mrs Frank Jones moved to the 2400 block of Oxford Ave from Cameron St. Mr Jones ran a wood yard, which he moved to Edgemont. From 1937 until 1947 William Pressley worked on and off for Mr Frank Jones.
Sometime in 1947 Mr Pressley purchase land from Mrs Teenie Panzzero at 2120 Columbia Ave.
During the twenty years that Mr Pressley sold wood and coal, he provided services to people in Edgemont, Harrisburg and Steelton.
One of the unique things about him was that, "he would not let anyone go cold" He couldn't say "NO" to anyone, especially when he knew that children would go cold if he did not.
When he started selling wood, Mr Pressley had one pick-up truck, but increased business allowed him to grow to two stake body trucks and three pick-up trucks. He provided jobs for men who wanted to work.
With the coming of oil, gas and electric heat, the wood and coal business fell off so much that he was forced to go out of business in 1967
