In 1917 the Mount Sinai was the only church in Edgemont and started in the home of Cornelius Carson on Highland Avenue. Founding fathers of the first house church were: Cornelius Carson, Henry Clark, Mary Clark Smith, Benjamin Smith, Golden Andrew, Sam Jackson, Robert Hodge Sr and family, Monroe Banks and family, Frank Miller, Clifford Lester and family.
In 1918 Mount Sinai met in the first school (Glenwood).
In 1920 they bought land on Highland Avenue, the first pastor was:

In 1932: Rev Jessie Kinnard became the pastor and served until 1944.
1945: Rev Sherman Marshall pastored and it was during that time a new church was built. The cornerstone was laid July 25, 1954
Rev Marshall pastored for 27 years, a new church was built next to the original church. (church is seen in this picture).
January 30, 1955 Mount Sinai was dedicated as it look today.

In 1918 the First Zion Primitive Baptist Church was founded, with Rev Haines and family, Golden and Lettie Andrews, Rev and Mrs J Clark. The church started in the kitchen of Deacon and Mrs Andrews.
as the first pastor. Rebecca Banks stated that it was started by just a few people, in fact, it was six people. The first place of worship was at Hartman's Row. The church started in the kitchen of Dean and Mrs Andrews.

In 1920 a small church was built

In 1972 a new church was built on the same site, and the small church was tore down.
In 1929 First Baptist Church of Edgemont: When Sibbie Hodge moved to Edgemont from Florida, there were no street lights, buses or paved roads. First Baptist Church of Edgemont played a major role in bonding the community together. The people were unified and cared for one another.
One of the church that existed in Edgemont was Beulah Baptist Church where Rev. Carter was the pastor.
Beulah Baptist Church merged with Shiloh Baptist Church in the 40's and later with Rev Banks and then Rev Reynolds were the pastors. A new building was built on the site that replaced the old building. St James merged with Shiloh Baptist Church in the 50's or 60's the name was changed to First Baptist Church (now called First Spirit Fillied Missionary Baptist Church).
First Baptist Church was located on Edgemont Rd, but in the winter of 1993, the church collasped under the weight of the snow.
In ???? The present church was buildt on Locust Lane.
In 1940's Locust Lane (Good's) Mennonite Church: and early 1950's two members from the Mennonite Church of Elizabethtown, PA visited Edgemont area, and realized that no one was having vacation Bible school, so the Good's Mennonite Church of Elizabethtown, PA; began having vacation Bible School under a tent on Locust Lane property.
In 1954 they purchased the Community building on Highland Avenue
In 1960 Paul Nissley was selected as pastor, and served until 1965.

In 1968 the present church was built on Locust Lane now know as Locust Lane Mennonite Chapel.
Praying over the land
In 1945 the Salvation Army branch was started in Edgemont. It was originally located on Clayton Avenue. Mrs Estelle Selvey stated they used to have Sunday School in Edgemont and church at their other location on Green Street. Mrs Selvey stated that after they moved to our new location on Locust Lane Mrs Metz ran a clothing bank at the old Salvation Army building on Clayton Aveune.
In 1952: the Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ was founded by Rev Belgium Baxter (Tent pitched same year for revival services).
In 1953: Purchased a Frame Church on Edgemont Rd (29' x 30')
1960: 30' extension (cinder block) added to the frame structure.
1966: Frame front portion demolished and replaced with cinder block and brick structure.
1973: 15' Brick expansion to north side of church. Brick tower and steeple constructed.
1979: Reconstruction of roof and interior renovations. 12 passenger step van purchased.
1981: New pews and pulpit furniture.
1984: 45 passenger bus purchased.
1988: Parking lot purchased adjacent to the church property.
1889: 30 feet extension to the rear of the church.
1995: Rev Charles Wayne Baxter (son) became the pastor of the church.
Episcopal Bishop Nathan Baxter also grew up in the church.
