I missed Demo-Day #1, but on Friday October 30, 2015, the night after trick-or-treating, I walked down from Hale through the area that had been occupied by the motel and Mrs. Scott's mansion. I discovered that the noise was a large mixer spraying water on the school to keep down the dust. The demo had started the day before and by the time I arrived most of the gym, back staircase, and north end classrooms were gone. That part of the building had been erected the year before I was born.
The gym is gone, at this point only the one story locker room section remains. Note the exposed pipe - one of the downspouts that drained the flat roof.
They have broken through the utility corridor between the two locker rooms and opened up the boys' locker room to the outside. That room was where I changed into my uniform for Junior High football practices on Duff Field. John Ivancic, who lived two houses up form us on Duff, and I used to walk home from practice together even though our families had forbidden us to associate with each other following the infamous knife incident a couple years earlier. I recall being genuinely shocked by the crude locker room talk by some of my 8th grade teammates, growing up was beginning to get both scary and disgusting.
Note that the sink in my fourth grade classroom is still attached to the wall. Salvage of useful stuff was widespread but I was surprised that a lot of stuff had not been salvaged including hundreds of vintage glass bricks.
Well the boys' locker room is history and I've had as much of this as I can stomach for one day.
