Royal School gets new deputy head

Mr Philip Hinde, head of English at the Royal Wolverhampton School, has been appointed deputy headmaster, it was announced today.

Mr Hinde (55), succeeds Mr E.F. Pope, who retires in July after 41 years with the school, and takes up the appointment in September.

Mr Hinde, educated at Gresham's School and Emanuel College Cambridge, is also careers master at the school, a position which he will continue.

He gained his teaching diploma at the London Institute of Education, and served during the last war with the Royal Norfolk Regiment.

Before joining the Royal School, Mr Hinde taught at Lucton School, near Leominister, for ten years. Until last year he commanded the school's Combined Cadet Force.
