Premier Dashes About On Tour's Second Day

The lesson went on uninterrupted when the Prime Minister, Mr. Harold Macmillan, visited the Wolverhampton Royal School today.

Mr Harold Macmillan, delighted with the first day of his West Midlands tour yesterday, set off jauntily on his second today with visits to Wolverhampton’s Royal School, Walsall, Aldridge, Wellington and, finally, Shrewsbury, where he is to stay the night.

First he paid a visit to Wolverhampton’s mayor, Councillor J.C. Homer, and then on to the Royal School were ill-luck and good-luck “made the day” for two young pupils. One was ill and the other was celebrating his birthday - and the result was that both met the Prime Minister.

Nine-year-old David Parkin, in the school sanatorium as a precautionary measure after being taken ill yesterday was ‘cheered up’ by the cheery Premier. David, who comes from Leicester, was the only patient. “I hope the excitement doesn’t give him a relapse,” said Mr. Macmillan.

Earlier during his tour of the junior mixed school with Lady Dorothy, the Prime Minister was introduced to Stuart Matthews, of 43, Finchfield Rd, Wolverhampton, a pupil in the top form. He laughed as Stuart, today said, “I think I’m very lucky to have my birthday on the day the Prime Minister came.”
