Teams and matches
Please note that OUTC has withdrawn its mixed team from the MK summer League, as of June 2023, because we do not have sufficient players to provide a team on a regular basis. We will enter a team next year if we can raise sufficient interest. To this end, we would be very interested in hearing from any of our members who would like to consider playing for a team for us in future. Please contact the Match Secretary (see Contact Us page).
Teams
The OU Tennis Club is a member of Tennis MK which enables us to take part in locally held league matches. There are two seasonal competitions, summer and winter. Most of the local tennis clubs enter one or more teams in both competitions and matches are held both home and away.
Both summer and winter competitions are split into divisions and at the end of the season the winning team from each division is awarded a division trophy.
The club normally enters teams in the following competitions in the MK league (the number and type of teams entered depends on the availability of players:
Summer League (Mainly weekday evening matches, starting at 6.30, but some weekend matches):
Open division
Mixed
Winter League (Weekend matches):
Mixed
Team captains are always on the look out for new team players (especially ladies). Once a player has played twice for a particular team they cannot play for a lower team, so sometimes (e.g. over the summer holiday period) captains struggle to find four players, especially as we don't have a large contingent of team players to call upon.
So if you are interested in possibly playing in a team, please don't be shy and do get in contact. Even if you don't want to play regularly, or think that your tennis might not be up to playing in a match, please contact the Match Secretary (contact details on the Contact us page) to discuss it further.
See the Tennis MK website for more information about leagues and matches.
New team members should refer to the Location of courts page for information about where to find the courts and nearby parking.
Match information for team captains
See the Tennis MK website for information about fixtures, and all rules and regulations relating to league matches.
The OUTC Match Secretary (contact details on the Contact us page) holds the master match schedule and books courts as appropriate. If you need to re-arrange a home match please use the online booking system to check possible dates and contact the Match Secretary about re-arrangements. There is no need to check dates for rearranged away matches but when you have a date agreed upon please make sure the Match Secretary is kept informed so the master schedule can be amended.
Home-team captains are responsible for organizing refreshments (squash), which is kept in the shed. If you notice that the squash or cups are running down at any time please let the Match Secretary know so that they can restock (contact details on the Contact us page).
For home matches you need to have a match card and 2 cans of balls. You should sort out refreshments and set up and measure the nets. Match results are now entered online, so the match card is only needed as proof of the result and in case of any discrepancies. Retain it yourself until the end of the season then discard it.
Match balls can be obtained from the Match Secretary (contact details on the Contact us page).
Please refer to the set of guidelines on court etiquette produced by Tennis MK. This should be followed for all matches.
