Hello all,

I am a senior PhD student of comparative physiology in the Department of Biology, York University (Dr. Scott Kelly's lab). My primary reason for joining oCUBE and getting involved with the Teaching and Learning community is a strong belief that teaching practices (just like laboratory science practices) must rely on peer-reviewed published observations rather than hearsay, "common sense", and anecdotal evidence.

My main interests/topics in teaching and learning include:

- alignment of assessment with instruction

- how do students perceive provided feedback? how do we make sure they constructively implement it?

- anything unconventional in the classroom (e.g. playing a catchy groovy tune (~5 min) before the lecture to let students "talk it out" and "dance it out" before the lecture begins, etc)

Having been a student and an educator, I try not to lose either perspective in the classroom.
