About Us

The Open Consortium of Undergraduate Biology Educators (oCUBE)

What is oCUBE?

We are a newly incorporated non-profit community of practice: the Open Consortium of Undergraduate Biology Educators (oCUBE) - advancing the quality of undergraduate biology education in universities. We began with a core group all involved in Undergraduate Biology education in Ontario universities, and are interested in sharing and promoting best practises with others who are passionate about teaching (in and beyond Ontario).

What's with the bees?

The link between oCUBE and bees dates back to the very beginning of our community of practice. The idea is that it is the collective nature of bees to bring success to the hive, rather than individual success. Such is the nature of oCUBE; we are a collaborative community that is best when working and developing together, sharing resources, expertise, ideas and support.

The members of oCUBE recognize that our work takes place on traditional Indigenous territories across Canada and the USA. We are grateful to have the opportunity to meet and work on this territory, and honour all the First Nation, MĂ©tis and Inuit people who have been living on the land. This land is not ours, but the care of the land is in our hands. We have a responsibility to be good stewards of the land and take care of it for future generations.
