Strait Rhumb Race Results
Although the Nordica 16 is hardly a racing design regular Charlottetown Yacht Club races do provide an additional reason to get out on the water. Sporting the highest PHRF (Northumberland) rating in Charlottetown Strait Rhumb has a history of consistent finishes. However in one freak result in 2006 she actually won her class and placed 4th over all in one Monday Night race.
2005 Charlottetown Yacht Club Award for Most Consistent Finish
(In keeping with CYC kwality standards "Rhumb" has been spelled incorrectly.) This award recognizes the fact that until Strait Rhumb crosses the finish line the race is not officially over. As my crew once noted while rounding the windward mark while the rest of the fleet crossed the finish line. "Those fools - Don't they know that there are hours of good racing left."
2007 3rd place A series Monday night races
In a complete fluke Strait Rhumb was the third place winner of the "B" class of one of four series of races at the CYC in 2007. The Monday series is the "white sail" section (no spinnakers). The A series os sometimes referred to as the frostbite series as it is in the early spring. The only explanation for the win is that almost no other boats were in the water that early.
Race results 2008
26 May - Series A race 1 - 4th in class, 6th overall. - 4 boats in class, 6 boats in race. 12 minutes behind next boat on corrected time. Wind dropping throughout race. Poor start. Too late shaking out reef.
2 June - Out of province so crew sails alone. Did not officially sail in race but started with fleet and maintained good placing until well into race. Did not copmplete full course.
9 June - 19 boats on the line. strong east wind. Looked like a straight downwind start so I prepared for a weing on wing start but had trouble rigging the pole. The wind had shifted and I was unable to get a good start. However Strait Rhumb did keep a good speed throughout. Final results were a surprise - third of 7 in B class, overall 12th of 19. A very respectable showing!
