2008 Logbook - Strait Rhumb
25 May 2008 - Sunday - Launch and shakedown cruise almost 1 month after removing boat from storage. Terrible weather resulted in delayed preparation including bottom paint. Made changes to deck hardware to provide better handling of lines. Spinlock rope clutches for jib and main halyard. Cam cleats for down haul and topping lift. Still much cleaning up to do. Launched at 14:00, everything seemed to work well. Crew - Ben Kinder and Julia Lima, visiting Rotary exchange student from Brazil. Retuirned to dock at 16:00
26 May 2008 - Monday - First race of the season. Left dock at 18:10. Start at 18:30. Very strong winds at the start so crossed the start line with reefed sails but wind dropped before first mark. First sail with GPS. Showed speed of 5.4 kt at start. Equipment deficiencies - must replace fastening on vang - purchase new sheet for poled out jib.
31 May 2008 - short sail - unremarkable
1 June 2008 - short sail - unremarkable
7 June 2008 - left dock about 0900. winds relatively light. Very heavy incoming tide. Plotted major harbour buoys as waypoints on GPS. Passed Blockhouse about 1200. Set course for Governors. Plotted Spithead and then Fitzroy. Set course for return 1400. Very heavy outgoing tide with Blockhouse buoy submerged. Several boats lying at Blockhouse trying to overcome tiude in light winds. Snuck along shore in eddy current and succesfully corssed to Middleground. Wind died completely motored to dock 1700.
