Nordica Fleet Burgee

There is no "official" Nordica burgee but a special boat deserves a special flag and armed with certain design considerations one has been developed. The chief design element is the double-bitted battle axe which is part of the design from the Exe Fibrecraft version of the Nordica. It appears on the sail of the boats and is also used with minor modification in most of the extant Nordica advertising material. The axe defaces a modified swallowtail Danish naval ensign.

The colours of the burgee are red, white and blue. Red and white are the colours of Denmark, where the design originated, and of Canada where it was built. The red white and blue together recognize that many Nordicas are to be found in the United States. In addition it is a nod to the "oostzeejol" or Baltic Sea Dinghy also sailed as the Midget 15 in Netherlands.

The burgee should be flown from the masthead or from the starboard spreader. The correct display is with the shaft of the battle axe pointing up towards the bow of the boat.

A limited number of burgees have been produced and are available for sale. Contact me at htholman @pei.sympatico.ca for details
