Bio of Dr. Nicole Curato:

Nicole Curato (@NicoleCurato) is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance the University of Canberra. She currently holds the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Fellowship for her work on democratic innovations in contexts of deprativity and dispossession. She is the Editor of the book the Duterte Reader: Critical Essays on Rodrigo Duterte’s Early Presidency--the first scholarly book that accounts for the strongman's rise to power (2017, Ateneo de Manila University Press/Cornell University Press). Her work on the Philippines has been published in scholarly journals including Journal of Contemporary Asia, International Political Science Review, and Current Sociology, among others. She is a regular contributor at CNN Philippines and has written for media outlets including the Rappler.com and the New York Times.
