Charlotte Anderson is number 905 in the ahnentable of Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York

Charlotte Anderson

Charlotte Anderson was born between 1683 and 1694, the daughter of Edmund Anderson and his wife Isabella Allen. She had an only sibling, Anna Maria Anderson, later the wife of Timothy Goodwyn, Archbishop of Cashel. Charlotte's 1683 earliest birth year comes from my own requirement that she be not older than 48 at the birth of her son Robert (in 1731), and the latest birth year comes from her mother's will dated 1694 in which she is named.

Their mother Isabella, left a will dated 1694 as the widow of Edmund Anderson, in which she names her two daughters. Since both their parents died while they were young, they were perhaps brought up by their uncle Charles Anderson, as all the peerages make them co-heiresses of him. It is entirely possible they were co-heiresses of Charles, but he was their uncle, not their father.

Charlotte Anderson, married on 24 Jul 1720, as his first wife, to Robert Jocelyn, the only son of Thomas Jocelyn of Sawbridgenorth, co Hert, by his wife Anneys Bray. Her sister Anna's marriage date has not yet been located by me, but was certainly *by* 1723, as her husband Timothy's will dated 1726 names three children: Charlotte, John and George

Robert Jocelyn was trained as a lawyer, but began his political career when in 1725 he became a member of the Irish House of Commons for Granard, co Longford. He later rose to be Attorney General in 1730. The next year their only son Robert Jocelyn, later 1st Earl of Roden, was baptised on 31 Jul 1731.

Robert became Lord Chancellor in 1739, and then in 1743 he was created Baron Newport of Newport, co Tipperary, which would presumably mean his wife could be styled "Baroness". However at her 28 Feb 1747 burial at Donnybrook, Dublin, she is called "Lady Newport".
