Checklist for Your Body Paragraphs
¨ Topic Sentence to introduce they main focus of your paragraph
¨ Introduce all your sources by telling your reader the
Speaker, Occasion and Purpose of the piece
¨ Select the most relevant and specific part of your evidence (also, don’t “bite off more than you can chew”)
¨ Cite your sources. Use the citation guide on the essay sheet.
¨ Offer deep analysis that:
o Explains the evidence in your own words
o Relates the evidence to the topic sentence and main argument of the paper
o Identifies the Significance of the evidence and/or Tone
o Transitions to the next idea
¨ Includes multiple pieces of evidence from different sources
¨ Concluding sentence that connects all of the evidence and analysis you provided with the idea in the topic sentence
