Thomas Henry WHEARE was christened on 10-7-1831 in Breage, Cornwall. He was the first son of Henry & Mary Ann WHEARE (nee Rowe). Henry WHEARE married Mary Ann Rowe on 5-2-1831 in Germoe, Cornwall.
The family appear in the 1841 census of Cornwall living in Tregunno. Henry Whear (sic), age 30, an engineer living with Mary, age 30 and children; Thomas (9), Elizabeth (8), Mary (6), Eliza (4), and Grace (1). By 1851 however the family were living at Roskear Croft in Tuckingmill, Redruth.
Still alive in 1881, Henry & Mary Ann are now living in Tolvadden, Illogan, Cornwall. Henry is 74, Mary Ann is 72, Grace is 39, still a spinster. Also in the house is Henry, aged 8, Henry & Mary Ann’s grandson.
Thomas Henry WHEARE married Caroline Sparnon on the 17th August 1851at All Saints Church, Tuckingmill, Cornwall. At the time Thomas’ residence was listed as Red River.

Caroline Sparnon was born in 1834 and christened on the 10th May at All Saints, Tuckingmill, Cornwall. She was one of 8 children born to Henry & Mary Sparnon (nee Viol). Henry Sparnon married Mary Viol on 9-6-1823 in Camborne, Cornwall. Their other children were Richard (b.1823), Henry (b.1825), Robert Viol (b.1829), Richard (b.1836), John (b.1838), Mary (b.1839) & Eliza Jane (b.1844). The family appear in the 1841 census of Cornwall living in Camborne, but back in Tuckingmill by 1851. The Sparnon surname can be traced back to the late 1500’s. This line originated from the town of Breage in Cornwall

Thomas Henry WHEARE was a copper miner from Cornwall. He was aged 22 when he came out to South Australia with his wife Caroline (listed as aged 22 but actually about 20) and two children: Caroline (aged 2) and William Henry (aged 1). They boarded the ‘Isle of Thanet’ at Plymouth on the 27-7-1854 and arrived in Pt. Adelaide on the 24-10-1854. Their son, William Henry, must have died at sea en route. The shipping record has him listed as dead.

The Wheare’s moved to Western Australia some time after 1877. It is likely they did this as the Burra mines were scaling down by this time and new gold mines were opening up in WA.
In later life Thomas & Caroline lived with their son, Alfred, at 276 Dugan Street, Kalgoorlie. Alfred was a baker and ran a business called ‘Broken Hill Bakery’ at that address.
Thomas Henry WHEARE died on the 23rd September 1906 in East Coolgardie, Western Australia.
Caroline WHEARE died on the 14th May 1906 in Boulder, Western Australia.
Both are buried in the Kalgoorlie cemetery.
