Beginner students are encouraged to play a few songs of their choosing at one of our school recitals. Playing at a recital is a critical part of the learning process. It forces you to practice for performances, and it will make you a better piano player as a result.
Piano performance is a graduation requirement for 1st grade.
Earn 10 PSH credits for playing in a recital.
Alternatively, if you are not ready to play at a recital, you can audio record your five best songs to fulfill this requirement.
Earn 2 PSH credits per song recorded.

Performing for a live audience can definitely be unnerving, and you have to put forth a lot of effort to make sure things go as smoothly as possible on stage. Use the following tips to help you practice and prepare for your piano recital or audio recording:
Practicing for Your Piano Recital
· Earn 10 PSH for playing at School Recital. Earn 2 PSH for each song you Audio Record.
· Do practice on the recital piano before your performance. All pianos are different, and you want to get a feel for it in advance.
· Do give yourself enough time right before a performance to practice your song at least once (but aim for twice).
· Do spend extra quality time on the most difficult parts of the song, so you can be sure to nail them!
· Do remember your feet; spend time perfecting your song’s pedaling techniques.
· Do have try playing without sheet music if you plan to read from your music on stage.
· Do Practice to Perform and have confidence that you sound good. This is the point of playing piano.
· Don’t let performance anxiety keep you from playing at a recital or audio recording your best songs.
· Don’t let distractions harm your performance.
Set an alarm to go off during your practice session; open a window to let in random noises, or practice with a recording of audience sounds so you can get used to distractions.
