Does standardized testing place to much pressure on students and educators? I feel that there is a lot of pressure placed on students and educators to make the grade. Some students can be the smartest student in the school, but not a good test taker. This student is myself. I am not a good test taker and I can study and know all the material and the moment I walk in the classroom, my mind is blank. If a student in your class does not do well on a test, I do not believe this is all because of the educator's skills. Some students need additional attention and need to be taught in a different matter to learn like his fellow classmates.
IEP programs are a way of life in many schools. I do believe an IEP program is important and does assist many students in their learning. I attended my fifth IEP session for my son this year. I have always saw good points and suggestions in the meeting. During the meeting, you listen to everyone at the school that is involved in your child's learning. There are suggestions made and plans put in action for the new school year.
In most case, IEP programs are great, but sometimes they may harm more than help. Do you think IEP programs are a crutch for the school? This past IEP meeting I attended was a disaster. Some of the teachers involved in my son's learning did not attend, but instead emailed their report for the meeting. This hinders the parent that was there and might have wanted to ask the teacher questions. Also, why does the IEP meeting have to be so negative? Should we not praise the student for their hard work? I do believe there are many changes to make to the IEP program for the program to be successful.
