Intro to Physics
Mathematics in Physics
Math is the language of physics. You will need to be able to perform basic mathematical operations, metric conversions, use scientific notation, use trigonometry, etc. etc. see below for Mr. Duecks' math review for physics 12
See here for a quick tutorial.
More importantly, you will need to be able to relate real-world observations to the mathematical expressions that describe them.
Measurement and Uncertainty
The SI system is used for science and engineering. Any measurement has uncertainty, and you will be learning how to express uncertainty in your measurements and in any calculated quantities derived from those measurements, such as density. See chapter 1 of the textbook, and handout below. College level intro below.
Graphical Analysis
You will learn how to display the results of your measurements in a graph, and then find the mathematical relationship between the measured quantities by finding the slope of the line of best fit. See chapter 1 of the textbook. See here for a general tutorial, and here for more graph math help.
