Penny Lab:
Questions: What is a molecule?
What is surface tension?
What is a chemical bond?
Materials: Eyedroppers (6), Penny (6), 40mL vial (6), Jar with water (3), Paper and pencil
Procedures:
1.) Students will share water jars, but work independently.
2.) Dip your 40mL vial into water jar – make sure measurement = 40mL!
3.) Place a penny on desk. Using eyedropper, collect water from 40mL vial and place droplets of water on penny surface. Count the number of droplets placed on the surface of the penny. How many will hold on the surface before falling off of the penny?
4.) Observe and record what happens. Why does this happen? How much water did you use (mL)?
5.) Repeat steps 2 through 4 to see if you get the same results.
6.) Collect data (information) results from other people at your table. Collect data from other tables.
7.) Create a histograph chart with collected information.
