These extra credit opportunities are available for all students. Some are more time consuming than others. None are required but are available to increase your involvement and appreciation for science. The amount of extra credit varies by topic and how much effort is put into the assignment. Permission must be obtained before beginning any off these opportunities. More opportunities will be added as the year progresses. These may not be turned in during the last two weeks of either semester.

Arabia Mountain (All students)
Travel to Arabia mountain. Walk to the top. As you travel, take photos of the different stages of succession. Create a diagram that explains how the mountain is progressing through succession. Attempt to identify as many plants as possible and determine if these are common types of plant associated with that stage of succession. What factors are contributing to the succession? How long until you believe a stable climax community will be established? Don't forget that animals are part of the process.
Atlanta Science Festival (All students)
The Atlanta Science Festival occurs in Atlanta in May each year. Research the festival and volunteer or participate in events. Obviously, the more involved you become, the more extra credit you can receive. This is a great way to become involved in science around Metro Atlanta. Trust me, you will learn a lot while volunteering about other opportunities and ways to become deeper involved.
