Note to students: Based on your selected track, do the following parts of this project.
Personal Finance Part 1 (60pts): White Track, Red 1&2 Track
Personal Finance Part 2 & 3 (75pts, 30pts): Only Red 1&2 Track
Introduction: Students must complete Part 1 (60pts), Part 2 (75pts) and Part 3 (30pts) of this project. These skills are "real-world." Part 1 and 2 must be done in pencil on paper (handouts), no Google share. Part 3 is an online test. Record your score on a sheet of paper and turn it in, this later goes in your portfolio.
Although these topics are not covered in class, students should use the Personal Finance Handbook in the back of their textbook for reference. This project is “discovery” learning whereby students learn by doing. Note: parents can be a good resource for students and are encouraged to help their students.
This Personal Finance Project is about creating personal wealth and keeping it. It’s possible to meet your financial goals. By choosing to budget, save and invest, you can pay off debt, save for college, and later on, buy a comfortable home, start a business, save for retirement and put money away for a rainy day. Through budgeting, saving and investing, and by limiting the amount of debt you incur, all these goals are within your reach.
This project will focus on the following personal finance activities: Creating a budget (Part1), Opening and Managing a Checking Account (Part1), Saving and Investing (Part2), Financial Institutions and Services (Part2), Credit and Debt (Part2), Paying for Education (Part2), Renting an Apartment (Part1), Getting a Job (Part2), Paying Taxes (Part1), and a personal finance test developed by WalletLiteracy (Part3).
