Tarn Shelf

Most of the sections needing attention on the Tarn Shelf have had work done

Many redundant tracks and pads were present prior to work starting, often just as a result of there being no clearly defined path to use. People were just following pads and tracks because many were quite distinct and it was easy to wonder off the main route without realizing it.

Work commenced in May 2007 and was completed by 2011


In October 2018 a survey of the first part of the shelf was made. Various photopoints from that period (2007-2011) had new photos taken to record the changes that have taken place. At first glance it often seemed that very little improvement had taken place, but on closer examination of the photo sets it there was ample evidence of change for the better.

AC Not a great deal of change over the years 2009 -2018 but it probably has water flowing down after rain.

AE There does seem to be a bit more soil in the area closest to the viewing point/camera location

AF Doesn't seem to be getting traffic now.

AK Low vegetation and grasses are establishing where the area was previously heavily trampled from people avoiding the bog ****

AL Quite noticeable and substantial recovery

AP Very noticeable recovery of trampled vegetation ****

AT Large hardened section with some vegetation recovery ****

AW Some grasses now establishing

AX Steps added and the vegetation has improved and trampled area of bare dirt reduced

AZ Bushes starting to grow in a little now and not getting damaged.
