Class of 2013

Jill Young Booth moved to Lincolnville in 8th grade and was a standout at Camden Rockport High School, where she played Varsity Soccer, Basketball and Baseball, however it was on the Soccer field where she excelled. As the Windjammers’ goal, Young had a career 0.62 goals against average and was a 3-time All State soccer player. After graduating from CRHS, Jill played Division 1 Soccer at North Carolina Asheville where she holds several school records, was named 1st team Big South All Conference, was the league’s Co-MVP in 1995 and led the school to their first ever Soccer Conference Title. Jill was the first women’s soccer player to be inducted into the UNC Asheville Athletic Hall of Fame.

Deane Deshon was a 1950 graduate of Rockland High School where he was a 3 sports star including playing 4 years of Varsity Football and Baseball and 2 years of Varsity Basketball. After graduating from Rockland, Deshon attended Maine Maritime Academy where he played 2 years of Football, a season of Basketball and 3 years of Baseball, before servicing in the U.S. Navy. A few years after leaving the Navy, Deshon enrolled at the University of Maine and played 2 more season of college Baseball. In 1962 Deshon was hired by Salisbury State College where he was the school’s Basketball Coach though 1970 and the Baseball Coach until 1997. During that 34 year run, Deshon’s teams won 553 games qualifying for 5 NCAA Tournaments and 4 NAIA Tournaments and was inducted in the school’s Hall of Fame in 1998. Deshon is also among the All Team Winningest Baseball Coaches in NCAA Division 3 history.

Gary Heald graduated from Waldoboro High School where he played Varsity Baseball, Basketball and Cross Country and after serving in the U.S. Army, attended the University of Southern Maine where he played Baseball and Basketball. After 2 years of coaching at Potter Academy in Sebago, Heald was hired as the teacher and coach at Camden Rockport High School, where he made his name as the Windjammers’ Basketball Coach. During his 7 year run from 1967-1974, Heald’s teams had a record of 104-19, qualifying for the Western Maine Class B tournament all 7 seasons, winning the 1973 and 1974 Western Maine titles and the 1974 Gold Ball, a 56-48 win over Orono. During his time at CRHS, Heald’s teams were 14-6 in Tournament Play. After winning the 74 title, Heald moved north of the border and coached college basketball at University of Prince Edward Island and St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia, where he won more than 200 games, leading St. Mary’s the Canadian Final Four 5 times and #1 National ranking before retiring from coaching in 1985.

Ricky Jones is one of the area’s top Golfers, participating on 3 State Championship Golf teams at Rockland District High School in 1986, 1987 and 1988, and was named 1st team All State Golfer in 1988. Jones then played Golf at the University of Maine, where he was the Maine Intercollegiate Golf Champion in 1994 and was a 1st team All America East Golfer in 1994 and 1995. Jones is one of only 4 golfers to win both the Maine Open and the Maine Amateur Championship, winning the Maine Open in 2006 and the Maine Amateur in 2003, 2004 and 2013. Jones is also a 5 time champion of the Paul Bunyan Amateur, a 5 time Maine Mid Amateur Champion, a 2 time Maine Club Team Champion and a 9 time Maine Player of the Year, all since 2003. Jones has also qualified and played in several USGA events including the U.S Amateur, U.S. Amateur Public Links, U.S Mid-Amateur and U.S. State Team tournaments.

Tracie Martin Littlefield was a standout at Vinalhaven High School and was a 5-year member of the Varsity Basketball team. During her career Tracie scored 972 career points while helping to lead the Vikings to a pair of Class D Western Maine Championship games (1980 and 1981) and the Class D State Game in 1981, a 73-52 loss to John Bapst. She also was a 4-year member of the Vinalhaven Softball team, being named the team MVP twice, as well as participating in Cross Country and on Vinalhaven’s first soccer team, a co-ed squad. For more than 2-and-a-half decades, Tracie has been a Basketball, Soccer and Softball official, working numerous Regional and State Finals. The longtime Narraguagus High School teacher has been the school’s Softball Coach and she is also a certified Red Cross Swimming Instructor. Tracie has been inducted in the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and to the Unum Provident Teacher’s Hall of Fame.
