Carroll LaHaye, 1973 graduate from Medomak Valley High School, where she was a 4-year letter winner in Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball, and helped lead the Softball team to 4 straight Knox Lincoln Championship. LaHaye was MVP of the Panthers basketball team her senior year and was awarded with Medomak Valley’s Sportsmanship Award. LaHaye attended the University of Maine at Machias, where she was one of the team captains all 4 years and helped lead UMM to the 1975-76 State Championship. LaHaye was Selected to the All-State team her senior year by the Maine Basketball Writers Association and after her career, the school retiring her number. Carroll was also a standout for Clippers’ Volleyball team. In 1982, LaHaye was named the Women’s Basketball Coach at Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Virginia, where she has won 471 games during her 28 seasons, which currently ranks 15th all-time in the history of NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball. LaHaye’s Yellow Jackets have had 18 straight winning seasons, have won 7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Regular Season Championships, 6 ODAC Tournament Championships and have gone to NCAA Division III Tournaments eight times. LaHaye has taken Randolph-Macon to the Sweet 16 four times, to the Elite 8 twice and led her 2005 squad lost the National Championship game, before falling to During her time at Randolph-Macon, LaHaye has been honored 11 times as Coach of the Year, including being named Virginia SID State Coach of the Year 5 times and Old Dominion Athletic Conference Coach of the Year 3 times. LaHaye has also served as the Head Coach of Randolph-Macon’s Women’s Soccer and LaCross teams, taking the 1982 LaCrosse squad to a 5th place finish in the AIAW National Tournament.

Bob Brown is one of the most respected basketball coaches in Maine, winning 583 games over a 40 high school and college seasons, including coaching basketball at Rockland District High School from 1968 through 1974, during which time he led 4 teams to the Eastern Maine Class A Tournament. Brown’s Tigers advanced to 3 semi-final appearances and finished with a 66-49 record while at Rockland. Brown also served as the Tigers’ Athletic Director and Golf Coach.Brown also coached in High School at Belgrade (16-24), Williams in Oakland (18-2), South Portland (109-34 including the 1979 and 1980 State Championships), Edward Little (10-9), Bonny Eagle (54-7) and Cheverus High Schools (168-22 including the 2008 and 2010 State Championships). Brown has lead 28 teams to the high school tournament, winning 6 Western Maine and 4 Gold Balls and has a tournament record of 43-21. Brown also coached at the collegiate level beginning at St. Anselm College, where he inheriting a 1-26 team (worst in the nation) and lead that program to the NCAA Division 2 Regional Tournament in 3 years, finishing with a record of 36-47 and a Northeast 8 Conference Championship. Brown spent 3 years at the University of Southern Maine, leading the Huskies to a 68-24 record, three trips to the NCAA Division 3 tournament and a berth in the 1989 Final 4, finishing third which is the highest national finish by a Maine Men’s Collegiate team. Brown left USM after the 1990 and moved onto Division 1 Boston University and led the Terriers for 4 seasons, posting double digit wins in 3 of those seasons. Brown’s collegiate record Brown was also a very successful baseball coach, leading both Belgrade and Cony High Schools to Conference Championships. Personally, Brown has been named Conference, Regional, Western Maine Class A and State Coach of the Year 19 times and coached a State All Star team 6 times. Brown was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003 and in the past year has been inducted into the Maine State Hall of Fame and the University of Southern Maine Hall of Fame.

Jeff Hart took over as Coach of the Camden Rockport Windjammers in 1983 and during the 2009-10 season Hart earned his 400th career victory, becoming one of 12 coaches to reach the milestone. Hart has led 23 of his teams to the Eastern Maine Class B Tournament, including qualifying the last 18 seasons. Hart’s Windjammers have captured 9 Eastern Maine Crowns (1994, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010), winning the Gold Ball 5 times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2009) going undefeated twice. (2005 and 2009) Following the 2010 season, Hart’s squads have a postseason record of 41-18,including going 36-9 since the 1997 tournament, which included winning streaks of 9 in a row (2001-2003) and 7 straight (2009-2010). Hart’s teams have also won 11 KVAC Championships and he has been named Coach of the Year twice in his career. Hart has won numerous KVAC and Class B Coach of the Year honors. Hart has also been selected as a Coach for the Maine McDonald’s Senior All Star Games and in 1998 coached in the National High School All Star game in Denver, Colorado. Hart attended Mt. Blue High School in Farmington playing for long time coach Jim Bessey and attended the University of Maine. Hart, who is also the Varsity Baseball Coach at Camden Hills, was named to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

Bob Morrill, (*) taught and coached at Rockland District High School for 39 years, leading the Tigers Baseball squad to the 1989 Class B State, the only in the school’s history. The team consisted of 2009 Hall of Fame inductee Richard Mazurek. When Morrill came to Rockland in 1955, he was hired to coach the Rockland Varsity Football, Basketball and Baseball teams and remained actively coaching for 4 decades. Bob was on the bench as an Assistant Coach for Rockland when the Tigers won 3 Eastern Maine Class B Championships between 1989 and 1992 and the school’s only Basketball Gold Ball in 1992. Bob lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track while he attended high school in Farmington during which time he set the State of Maine record in the Pole Vault, a record that stood for 23 years. After High School, Morrill attended the Farmington Teachers’ College where he played baseball. He was also an avid skier and taught all of his children to ski. The Baseball Field in Rockland is named after Morrill, Bob passed away in 1997.

Dean Erickson was a standout point guard for Art Dyer’s Medomak Valley teams in the mid 1970s, and he helped lead the Panthers to the 1975 and 1977 Class B State Championship games, winning the Gold Ball in 1977. Erickson scored 594 points, handed out 375 assists, grabbed more than 200 rebounds and shot 73% from the foul line during his career at Medomak Valley, with the Panthers going 65-7 during that time period. Dean was named the Panthers’ MVP following the 1976-77 season as well as MVP of the Western Maine Class B Tournament. And after his senior season, Erickson was named to the Bangor Daily News’ First Team All State Erickson was considered one of the best point guards in the state during his 3 years as a starter at Medomak Valley playing for 2009 Hall of Fame inductee Art Dyer, Dean was known as a talented playmaker who played tenacious defense but was also remembered by many fans as the player who wore one white sneaker and one Erickson continued his basketball career at Brown University, playing 3 seasons for the Ivy League School. During 1981 season, Erickson had 6 steals in a game against Dartmouth, which still ranks 3rd all-time for a game in Brown Basketball After Basketball, Dean appeared in several episodes of the TV Show “Frasier” and starred as Gabriel Knight in the award-winning CD-ROM adventure game “The Beast Within".
