This very fun project was completed in just over a one moth period. It consisted of a complete electronics department remodel. The only existing component in this retail area that remained untouched, was the saltwater aquarium. Everything else was new custom construction. We started drawing just after thanksgiving and finished installing just after Christmas. Within that time frame my responsibilities covered taking all of the field measurements of the existing space, making a working CAD model of the space, engineering and detailing all of the fixed structures and displays. While a co-worker took care of detailing the non-fixed floor displays.
Adding detail to the existing drywall column was completed by installing three new assemblies. Straddling the top of the column we added a 2"aluminum frame that supports CNC cut laminated sintra accent panels. Moving down the column is a new four sided lightbox header. That was also installed as 2 piece assembly and mounted to the column with pinch cleats. Completing the column we created four cube textured panels that once installed acted as an interactive cell phone case display. Where shoppers could test the fit and feel of each case on their own phone.
The eye-wear display wall was created in five main sections. Perimeter LED lighting was designed into the back face of the face frames, to flood the interior of the display cases and upper light boxes with light. The glass shelves are mounted on shelf standards that protruded through the back face of the display area. The space between each display case features a column with a flush mount mirror, a pull out shelf, and a small drawer. A removable wood accent panel allows access to electrical and other utilities on the existing wall.
The Live Audio headset display features 42 solid maple spheres to display headsets that are controlled by the ipad at the center of the display. Customers can put on any of the headphones and select what music they wish to sample, to test out the headphones. A high security display case was built into the base just above the lower drawer bank, to display the high value products that were of a greater theft risk.
Laminated plywood accent beams were added to the ceiling, spanning the entire retail space. These were built around an existing dropped ceiling with existing lighting and fire suppression that could not be moved or blocked. After careful consideration we decided to suspend the beams below the dropped ceiling tiles by hanging them from threaded rods tied off to the buildings truss structure. This provided a solution that allowed the ceiling to remain mostly intact with minimal modification.
