Courses

The Maryland Crash Reconstruction Committee (MCRC) has been tasked by the Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO) to develop and offer crash investigation and reconstruction courses to Maryland law enforcement officers.

Our courses are broken into three study areas; Core Investigative Courses, Advanced Courses and Other Seminars and Schools, which includes Case Studies, Crash Talk and Basic Crash Investigation.

Core Investigative Courses are classes that provide the foundation for becoming a Crash Reconstructionist. Each of the three levels builds on the next, thus giving the student all the tools needed to be considered a reconstructionist.

The Advanced Courses are separate investigative areas that the student can specialize in and gain further knowledge about a specific type of crash or investigative technique. Advanced Courses include Digital Photography, Biomechanics and Pedestrian crash courses, just to name a few.

Case studies are offered quarterly and reconstructionists present crashes that may have been unique or involved advanced investigative techniques. Crash Talk is a one day seminar offered at various times during a year. This one-day seminar offers attendees updates and exploratory techniques for investigating crashes. Previous topics have included using UAVs and 3-D mapping.

Our Basic Crash Investigation courses were developed for the patrol or new traffic officer that is interested in crash investigation, but unsure about becoming a reconstructionist. This courses exposes the student to basic investigative methods and provides insight into this scientific field of work.

Courses are offered year-round at various locations in Maryland. Please browse our course offerings and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

The MCRC has partnered with the Traffic Training Team to offer additional traffic investigation courses not listed here. To view and register for these courses, please navigate to the Traffic Training Team website.
