Digital Photography for the Crash/Crime Scene Investigator

Summary

This newly designed course will help the investigator lend credibility to the their reports and provide essential evidence for use in court proceedings. Photography is invaluable in securing short-term evidence at the traffic or crime scene.

Since the crash/crime scene affords little opportunity for investigators to consult manuals on evidence preservation or to leisurely take clear, identifiable photographs essential for their investigation, this course will teach the student how to properly document a crash/crime scene using photography.

Students will gain a thorough working knowledge of their cameras' component parts and accessories and will participate in "hands-on" exercises by photographing crash/crime scenes and wrecked vehicles. The legal guidelines to be considered in the use of photography will be explained. Students will also have the opportunity to see new equipment and hear about new technical advances in this field.
