Pedestrian/Bicycle Crash Reconstruction School

Summary

Pedestrian and bicycle crashes are one of the most frequent types of injurious crashes in urban areas. Because of their unique nature, special techniques are required to investigate and reconstruct these incidents. 

This course will cover the special dynamics involved in pedestrian and bicycle traffic crashes. By analyzing reaction times, victim injury analysis and environmental factors, the student will learn to recognize and interpret evidence and associate it with the crash sequence. In addition to classroom instruction, practical exercises and staged crash scenarios will be used to give the student hands-on experience.

• Pedestrian crash formulas

• Impact dynamics from pedestrian/bicycle crashes

• Objective, subjective, and performance data analysis

• Collection of evidence

• Pedestrian/bicycle conspicuity

• Reaction time/human factors

• Reconstruction techniques

• Bicycle collision analysis

• Hit-and-run investigation techniques

Prerequisite: Students must have successfully passed a Level III Crash Reconstruction course to be eligible to attend.

Attire, Costs and Other Requirements

Students will need to bring note taking materials and a scientific calculator.

Dress is professional casual.
