Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash Reconstruction
Summary
This course will cover the special characteristics of crashes and the unique dynamics at play when a heavy vehicle is involved in a collision. The nomenclature and operational conditions of commercial vehicles will be discussed as well as the physics involved when conducting investigations with this specialized vehicle.
Topics Include:
Configuration and operation of braking systems
Trailer coupling devices (fifth wheel)
Steering and suspension systems
Jackknifing
Hydroplaning
Skid mark measurements and speed determinations
Center of mass determinations
Rollover and weight shift
Prerequisite: Students must have successfully passed a Level III Crash Reconstruction course to be eligible to attend.
