Terrain Tiles are the hexagonal shaped tiles that portray landmasses that appear on the world map. Each Terrain Tile has specific properties, such as Green Level, assigned to it. The Green Level of the tile is used in conjunction with the Green Level System, which is used to determine how the Terrain Tiles’ states will change with each turn. Some Terrain Tiles will behave differently using this value compared to other tiles. Terrain Tiles can be affected and changed through use of Ability Cards, Natural Disasters, and Village Abilities.
*Natural Disaster Spawning Percentages and Terrain Tile Green Level tuning can be found in the Terrain Tile Tuning spreadsheet.
Green Level Average Rules
- Each turn, Terrain Tiles in the world will calculate their Green Level Average
- Based on their Green Level Average, a Terrain Tile will determine if it will remain the same or transitions towards a different target Tile type
- If the Basic Terrain Tile is eligible to change its type:
- The Tile changes into the Basic Terrain Tile that is either one Green Level above or below the current Green Level of the changing tile
- The change occurs once per turn until it the Changing Terrain Tile has changed into its target Terrain Tile
- The order in which a changing Terrain Tile progresses through sequence of Basic Terrain Tiles towards its target Terrain Tile type is determined by the Green Levels of the Basic Terrain Tiles
- The target Terrain Tile type may change before the changing Terrain Tile has reached its target Terrain Tile
- Terrain Tiles cannot change into Special Terrain Tile types through the Green Level Average Calculation System
- There are specific ranges of Green Level Average values that determine whether the Green Level Average of a Basic Terrain Tile allows it to change states or not
- If a Basic Terrain Tile’s Green Level Average is within a range for a Basic Terrain Tile Type that is different from its current Terrain Tile type, the Tile will change towards the target Terrain Tile type (Ranges should be tunable)
- If Green Level > 1.5, transition towards Swamp Tile next turn
- If Green Level <= 1.5, transition towards Forest Tile next turn
- If Green Level <= 0.5, transition towards Grassland Tile next turn
- If Green Level <= -0.5, transition towards Steppe Tile next turn
- If Green Level <= -1.5, transition towards Desert Tile next turn
- If a Basic Terrain Tile’s Green Level Average is within a range for a Basic Terrain Tile type that is the same as its current Terrain Tile type, the Tile will NOT change
