This tutorial results from a desire of an Organiser II Forum Member to write his own text based interactive fiction adventure on his Organiser.
(1) Map. It is understood that one of the first tasks to consider is the 'map' and the relationship between locations. At this time you will be considering the Items/Objects used by the adventurer to interact with the locations. The tutorial illustrates how you can use a spreadsheet to graphically layout your map and show the relationship between locations and items.
(2) Database files. The Organiser has one large advantage when considering such a project. The ability to use and the ease of handling database files. It does way with the need to insert location and objects arrays in the code which are difficult to modify or add to and take up vasts amount of RAM when the game is running.. The tutorial will demonstrate how you can simple create your locations and items/objects database files and keep them on a PC for testing before transferring them to a ram or datapak for use by the program.
(3) Program code - The tutorial has fully documented sample OPL program code showing how to develop a text adventure from start to finish. For example demonstrating how to interact with the Organiser, how to give instructions or directions! How to 'action' these instructions.. Suggested program code is contained in the Tutorial Notes.ZIP archive available complimentary to members of the Organiser II Forum. It is made available through the forum to assist with updates and bug fixes.
