PSION Chess

Pop Out and Print Manuals as required

The PSION chess program developed by Richard Lang.  In about 1983 Richard started to write his program for 68000 based processors in assembly language. Psion released the program with Sinclair Research for the 68008 based Sinclair Ql and later under Psion's own label for 68000 based Apple Macintosh and Atari ST homecomputers, in late 1983 ported to 8086 based PCs running under the MS-DOS operating system. Psion was the shared winner of the chess world championship in 1984. The DOS version was supplied on  5¼" floppy disk. In an effort to give PSION enthusiasts the opportunity to try this software in DOSBox the contents of the floppy disk are contained in the ZIP archive.

Running this legacy software in windows.

Because legacy DOS programmes prefer 8 character file and directory names without spaces, start by unzipping the files into a directory close to the root directory in C:\   - something like C:\DosBox, C\PSION,  or in my case C:\Working

Huw Barnes outlines his recollections of the program from his time working for PSION in the 1980's
