Geologist digs into Joggins’ coal age history

Miners in River Hebert, Cumberland County, were gathered to hear the fate of coal mining in their community from a young geologist in the late 1970s.
John Calder, a geologist with the provincial Department of Natural Resources, was in his early 20s when he made the announcement.
"It was my unenviable job to tell them coal mining was over in their community. I can still picture those faces glued to me," said Calder, describing what he called a powerful moment in his life.

With the worldwide competition set to wrap up Friday with the naming of the seven successful natural wonders by the New7Wonders Foundation, Bay of Fundy Tourism is thrilled with the level of attention the bay has received.
[FIVE ISLANDS, NS] — Win or lose, the person behind the Bay of Fundy's effort to become one of the New7Wonders of nature feels the international exposure garnered by the competition is nearly immeasurable.
With the worldwide competition set to wrap up Friday with the naming of the seven successful natural wonders by the New7Wonders Foundation in Switzerland, Terri McCulloch is thrilled with the level of attention the Bay of Fundy has received since first entering the race.
