Visitors promise to promote Gandhara civilisation in Korea
By Sadia Qasim Shah; Dawn; March 20 2012
PESHAWAR, March 19: Members of a South Korean delegation, which is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to see the remains of the ancient Gandhara civilisation at the provincial government`s invitation, on Monday said they would convince their compatriots to show up in their `real home` for sightseeing and pilgrimage as they were satisfied with arrangements made for their security.
After a visit to Peshawar Museum, pilgrim Lee Won Jong, who is part of the delegation, told reporters that Korean tourists and pilgrims would love to visit places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which was at the heart of the ancient Gandhara civilisation once they returned home and apprised them of the untroubled, successful visit and great hospitality.
He said he would share details of his visit with Korea`s chief monk, who wanted to develop archeological sites and monuments of Gandhara civilisation.
Cultural heritage: Takht Bhai offers a glimpse of life under Kanishka
By Mahwish Qayyum; Express tribune; March 11 2012
PESHAWAR:
A visit to Takht Bhai offers the chance to explore ruins dating back to the time of Kanishka, a Kushan emperor, famous for his military, political and spiritual feats.
Buddhists offered prayers at the site and left statues to mark their gratitude once their wishes had been fulfilled, said Dr Shah Nazar Khan, from the Directorate of Archeology and Museums, K-P, while speaking to The Express Tribune. People visited the place in the final stages of life to meditate.
Since the site is situated on top of a hill, it escaped the devastation wrought by successive invasions and is still well preserved, according to historians.
