Longhorsley Local History Society

At our meeting in September the Local History Society were treated to a fascinating talk titled “The Berwick Photo Centre Collection 10 Years on”.

Cameron Robertson, from Berwick Records Office, told us about David Smith who started with the Berwick Advertiser and had a distinguished record as a photographer before setting up his own business, The Photo Centre, in the town. It was the place to go for all events and occasions and we saw many of the interesting photos illustrating life from the 1950s to the 1980s. Berwick Record Office took over the very large archive of negatives and are in the process of digitising them. They are also producing books of the photos for each decade.

Don’t miss our next talk in November, which will be about lifeboats.
