As part of their ‘Gear Change’ campaign NCC are funding cycle training skills to support adults to get their bikes back on the road, keeping fit and reducing carbon emissions. See the NCC news item Northumberland gets set to 'change gear' and go to northumberlandgearchange.co.uk
All those interested will need to complete an individual application form and will then be offered the training; all training areas are organised risk assessed in advance and the training professional delivered by qualified Bikeability instructors.
This is free on a first come first served basis and reflects well in supporting adults in Northumberland communities to keep fit and healthy through cycling and benefits the environment by reducing carbon emissions.
Since the COVID pandemic there has been a huge increase in cycling and riding to work - through this project we have a golden opportunity to further continue this momentum and help people to stay safe!

Northumbria Police are urging residents to be cautious after three reports of a ‘courier fraud’ style-scam in Northumberland where a man claiming to be a police officer tried to coerce them into sending money, bank cards and other valuable ‘evidence’ to ‘investigators’ via a courier.
Remember, police officers or your bank will never ask you to hand over money, or transfer funds.
If you receive a call like this do not interact with them – hang up and report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or online via their website.
Please take the time to talk to your loved ones about ‘courier fraud’ and help us reinforce the message that police will never ask anyone to withdraw cash, or send us anything via a courier.
It's always the same advice for all unsolicited calls, text, emails and letters.
• If you think the communication could be genuine then contact the person or company the communication purports to come from.
• Use your normal contact details or look for a reliable source.
• Don't use the link or contact details in the unsolicited communication.
• If it's a phone call, dial 1471 first so you can check that the line is OK to use, or use a different phone.
Please report any issues with off-road bikes, poachers or breaches of Covid regulations to police via 101 or the ‘Contacts’ page of police.uk
If you wish to report any incident please contact Northumbria Police on 101 or in an emergency 999 and for anything else I can be contacted.
Alternatively you can pass information anonymously via Crime Stoppers at crimestoppers-uk.org or 0800 555 111.

At the time of going to press the case rates in the UK and Northumberland were rising sharply with most of the new cases being of the Delta variant but number of patients in hospital and the death rates are all very low.
The data suggest that the success of the vaccination programme has begun to break the link between cases and hospitalisations.
As of June 22nd, in Northumberland there were 10 Covid patients in hospital and there had only been one death from Covid since the beginning of April.
Step 4 of the Roadmap out of Lockdown was delayed from 21 June but some rules did change at that time.
The move to Step 4 will be confirmed one week in advance but it is expected to happen on 19 July.
That will mean
• No legal limits on social contact
• No legal limits on significant life events
• Remaining businesses such as nightclubs reopen
The Roadmap is about coming out of Lockdown. Other rules and guidance about keeping yourself and others safe - such as wearing face coverings, international travel and Covid-secure venues - may also be relaxed.
When details are confirmed we will post them on the newsletter website and leave cards in Millar’s Village Shop and Longhorsley Village Hall.
By June 24th 83% of UK adults (44 million) had received their 1st dose and 61% (32 million) had received their 2nd dose.
We are on target to give groups 1-9 and those over 40 their 2nd dose within 8 weeks and to give all adults their first dose by the end of July.
If enough people accept the offer of vaccination we could achieve herd immunity by the end of August.
A van (with a gazebo) will be in the Shoulder of Mutton car park on on alternate Wednesdays 9:30am to 11am - July 7th & 21st and August 4th & 18th.
Come along to collect your free home lateral flow testing kits and get advice about testing.

Northumberland County Council recently conducted a CCTV survey on the culvert which crosses under the path connecting Whitegates and Church View. The results were that the Northumbrian Water’s sewer network is in good condition. Works to install an additional trash screen are also being progressed. A survey of the second culvert, which would have carried the watercourse pre-development of the estate was abandoned a short while into the survey due to a build-up of water in the pipe, which usually points to a constriction issue and this is to be investigated further. We will keep residents updated as and when any reports are received from NCC.
Jan Chisholm has kindly agreed to take over the responsibility for the allocation of the equipment.
To book the equipment please contact her on 07718 906358.

Because Longhorsley Parish Council continues to have some significant objections the application will be decided by the Strategic Planning Committee.
The case officer’s recommendation to the committee is that the application is approved subject to conditions.
The Parish Council's objections relate to the change of use from commercial to residential, vehicle access via the footpath and the enclosure of a small part of Village Green.
The next Strategic Planning Committee meeting is Tuesday July 6th at 4pm and will be open to the public.
We will send a Breaking News email when the agenda is published.
More details in the Strategic Planning Committee June 2021 section of our 'Planning Application - Belmont' webpage.
NCC is inviting comments on the proposed Main Modifications.
Comments must be submitted by August 4th and should relate only to the Main Modifications in the schedule, and not other parts of the plan.
There is no need to repeat any previously submitted comments as these are already before the Inspectors.
As far as we can see there are no Longhorsley specific issues.
More details, including how to comment, on our Consultation on Main Modifications webpage.
