In March 2025, parishioners were asked to nominate a person or organisation who they believed had enhanced the parish through:
service to the community
contributing to the life of the parish
credit to Longhorsley’s reputation
charitable works
selflessness
The number of nominations received determined who the deserving recipients would be. This year, we have one clear Winner …. Mick Wake. Our congratulations go to you.
Those parishioners who nominated the recipient said the following kind words:
Mick does so much for all the different groups in the village, giving up his time to be a quiz master, bingo caller, master of ceremonies and Santa! He will help anyone, using his own time to compile quiz questions for charity fundraisers, as well as sourcing prizes for those fundraisers. He is always cheery and chatty and would genuinely do anything for the village. He’s helped the Village Hall, Village Fete, school, playgroup, toddler group, the pub and a number of charities. He does everything on top of working full time in a busy farm job. We are all the richer for having Mick in our community!
Helps with fundraising and anything that the parishioners need. Although Mick lives in Scots Gap, he works at Smallburn and is involved with village events.
Brought the older residents of Longhorsley for an enjoyable morning of chat and most of all laughter.
The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, 11th June, in the Village Hall, starting at 7pm, with a parishioner slot at 8pm. Meeting notices are displayed on village notice boards, with minutes and other information found on the Parish Council website.

Thank you all for attending the organised events throughout the day that marked the historic 80th anniversary of VE Day. The Parish Council will in future raise a VE flag annually to mark the historic date.
Thirty hours with no sleep has taken some time to get over, so thank goodness elections only take place every four years!
It is a wonderful honour to receive such a vote of confidence and I am very, very grateful. I look forward to doing my best for the village and the County Council over the next four years. So thank you.
