The Northumbrian Language Society

Yule Meet

Saturday 13th December from 2 - 4pm

Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum

Join us for this traditional seasonal event – 

with dialect contributions from members of the audience; 

a shared finger meal brought by those present; 

“Whe’s Tellin Hoafies”, our Northumbrian version of “Call My Bluff”;

the singing of our own Yuletide Carol 

and the grand raffle, with prizes brought by those present!!!

Longhorsley WI

On 4th December we will be having our usual Christmas Quiz, courtesy of Val, and a shared supper. In January we will be enjoying a Members night.

Walking Group

The walks are usually 4 to 6 miles long and it’s a good idea to bring a drink and energy snack on the walk.

The next upcoming walks are:

Thursday 11th December: Christmas walk with lunch at the Cook and Barker in Newton on the Moor, led by Sheena and Jan.

Monday 5th January: TBC.

Thursday 15th January: High and Low Newton, led by Penny  788278.

Ladies Lunch Group

The next Ladies Lunch will be on the 9th December at Linden Hall at 12.30pm. If you wish to go you need to get the pre-menu choice and send it back to Olive by the 29th November please. 

The January Lunch will be on the 22nd January at the Shoulder of Mutton at 12.30pm. Please let me know if you intend to come to either or both at

Keep Fit Class

We continue to exercise in the Village Hall on Monday mornings between 9.15 and 10.15am. New members are most welcome. We will take a break from the 15th December and resume again on the 5th January 2026.

Shirley Forster is our Instructor and sessions are in conjunction with Age UK.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust - Coquetdale Group

We meet on the first Monday of each month from September to April at the Jubilee Hall, Rothbury. Outings/visits are organised in the summer months.

Guests are very welcome and a fee of £4 is charged. Doors open at 7pm with tea and coffee available for a small donation.

Monday 1st December at 7.30pm: Phil Hanmer will give an illustrated talk about the “Natural History in Morocco' s High Atlas Mountains” including butterflies and dragonflies.

Monday 5th January at 7.30pm: Elaine and Ian Burnell will give an illustrated talk on “Dragonflies from the Coquet to Tweed”.

Longhorsley Village Hall Baby & Toddler Group

Join us every Thursday morning, 9.15 - 11.15am, for a relaxed morning where little ones can play and socialise, while the grown ups enjoy a hot drink! We have lots of toys, crafts and snacks and it is a great way to meet other parents/carers in the local area! Only £2 per child - no booking required, everyone welcome. Christian Vision for Men

The Mid-Northumberland Christian Vision for Men group have planned two meetings in December and January.

In December, as we normally do, we shall be holding our annual Christmas meal. It will be held in the Angler's Arms on the evening of Monday, 15th December at 6.45pm. An additional feature of this dinner will be that we shall have Christian singer-songwriter, Gareth Davies-Jones, performing for us. The cost of the evening will be £40 for those who are having two courses and £42 for those who would like three.

Our January breakfast meeting will be taking place at the Northumberland Arms in Felton on Saturday 31st January at 9am. Our speaker that morning will be Professor Nick Megoran from Newcastle University, who will be telling the amazing story of the truce between Japanese and American troops on the Japanese island of Aka in 1945, which took place before the official surrender of Japan at the end of the Second World War. The cost of this breakfast will be £15.
