Devotional 4: Job 1-5

Job 1 - 5

There are a great many truths that God teaches us in the first chapter of Job but the one that I want you to think about is that God talks to other spiritual beings about His children. God spoke to Satan about Job and what a faithful son he was. It is true that Satan tried to minimize this by saying that Job was only faithful because of other reasons but God will have none of it. He holds Job up to Satan and praises him.

What about you? How many times has God looked down on you and been disappointed? How many times has God wanted to praise us to His Court but could not. I am not talking about all the sins all of us commit everyday (known and unknown). Rather I am talking about all those times when we forget about God and only think of ourselves. Job was concerned about his relationship with God as well as his children’s relationship with God. How much time do you spend thinking about your relationship with God and trusting Him? Or how much time do you spend praying and interceding for others so that their relationship with God can be strengthened?

God knows we sin and that we are sinners. Job was a sinner too. But Job trusted in God – whether good things happened to him or bad things – he trusted in God. We need to be more like Job and trust God through good times and bad. We need to be people whom God can look down upon and hold us out as examples to other spiritual beings of sons and daughters who trust in God and Him alone.
