Devotional 3: Gen 30-33

Genesis 30 - 33

It is so very hard for us to be patience and trust in God. How many times in your life did you act like Rachel and Leah? Since God was not giving them children they wanted, they decided that they would help God and give their female servants to their husband so that they could have another child. This is not what God wants. He wants his children to trust Him like Abraham did when He only gave him ONE son near the end of his life.

I have to remind myself often that when something is not happening as soon as I think it should that forcing the issue will not be a good thing. Ask yourself what it is you want/desire and then how far are you willing to go to get it. Rachel and Leah went too far and it caused problems later on. Do not let desire cause you to not trust in God and trust in His time frame. It may be that you want a house or a different job but every time you try to get it, it does not work out. You could lie to yourself or others and get that house or job but that would soon slip through your fingers. Maybe it is a complicated as a spouse or a child. You certainly can lie to yourself and marry someone whom your family and friends warn you against or spend the money with IVF and let the doctor help you get a child. But that is not the path of trusting God.

Trusting God means waiting. It may mean waiting for decades like Abraham or Joseph or it may just be a few years. Sometimes God works quickly in our lives and sometimes he takes our WHOLE life to accomplish one of His purposes – we do not know ahead of time which it will be but we do know that we need to TRUST always.
